GAME RECAP: Oilers Roll Past Laguna Hills in Homecoming Blowout
HUNTINGTON BEACH — It was a homecoming to remember at Cap Sheue Field as the Huntington Beach Oilers opened Epsilon League play with a statement 65-10 victory over Laguna Hills on Friday night. The win marked Huntington Beach's fourth straight victory and the most points scored by the program since September 29, 2005, when the Oilers defeated Century 75-7.
Huntington Beach (5-1, 1-0) set the tone early, forcing a safety on the opening drive before quarterback Brady Edmunds put on a record-setting performance through the air. The junior finished 22 of 24 passing for 381 yards and seven touchdowns, connecting with star receiver Troy Foster for five of those scores.
The Oilers exploded for 30 first-quarter points, beginning with an 11-yard touchdown run from Nathan Villanueva following the safety. Edmunds quickly followed with a 16-yard strike to Troy Foster, then an 8-yard touchdown to Foster again to extend the lead. Just before the end of the quarter, Steel Kurtz hauled in a 21-yard score to make it 30-0 Huntington Beach after one.
Laguna Hills answered with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Jaxson Vanderbe to Nate Medina in the second quarter, but the Oilers kept their foot on the gas. Edmunds fired back with a 32-yard touchdown to Foster, then later hit him deep for a 70-yard score to cap a first half that saw Huntington Beach roll into the locker room up 44-10.
The fireworks continued out of halftime as Foster added a 66-yard touchdown reception midway through the third — his fifth of the night — followed by another Edmunds touchdown pass to Steel Kurtz from seven yards out to make it 58-10.
In the fourth quarter, Nathan Santillan broke loose for a 66-yard touchdown run, sealing the Oilers' dominant 65-10 victory in front of a packed homecoming crowd.
