Oilers Close Non-League With Statement Win Over Mayfair
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — The Huntington Beach Oilers capped off their non-league schedule in dominant fashion Friday night at Cap Sheue Field, defeating the Mayfair Monsoons 48-12. The victory marks the Oilers' third straight win and improves their record to 4-1 as they now shift focus to Epsilon League play.
The Oilers wasted no time putting points on the board. On their first offensive snap, quarterback Brady Edmunds found wideout Dylin Bruce streaking downfield for a 63-yard touchdown to make it 7-0.
Edmunds struck again in the second quarter, hitting Nathan Sammartano for a 15-yard touchdown to double the lead. Minutes later, Bruce showcased his special teams impact with a huge 94-yard punt return for a score.
Mayfair got on the board with a 32-yard field goal from Christopher Mil, but Huntington Beach answered quickly. Edmunds uncorked a deep ball to Troy Foster for a 56-yard touchdown, giving the Oilers a commanding 28-3 halftime lead.
Huntington Beach continued to dominate after the break. A 14-play drive ended with Nathan Villanueva's 2-yard touchdown run before Bruce struck again—this time on defense—returning an interception 55 yards for a touchdown to extend the margin to 42-3.
Mayfair managed a safety and later connected on a 50-yard touchdown pass from Elijah Quinonez to Chace Driscoll, but it wasn't nearly enough. The Oilers put the finishing touch on the night with Nathan Santillan's 23-yard touchdown run in the final minutes to close the scoring at 48-12.
With their third straight win, the Oilers are carrying plenty of momentum into league play. Huntington Beach will open Epsilon League action at home against Laguna Hills on Friday, October 3 at 7 p.m. at Cap Sheue Field.
