GAME RECAP: Oilers spoil Hawks’ Homecoming in Epsilon League Opener
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA – The Huntington Beach Oilers returned to action under the Friday night lights after a bye week, looking to build on their upset win two weeks ago against the Mayfair Monsoons, 31-21, on the road in Bellflower.
The Oilers wasted no time, opening the scoring in the first quarter with a five-play, 60-yard drive capped off by a 10-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brady Edmunds to wide receiver Troy Foster. The momentum continued in Huntington Beach's favor when their defense delivered a key stop, setting up a deep shot from Edmunds to Steel Kurtz. The 1-yard line reception led to an Edmunds quarterback sneak, putting the Oilers ahead 14-0.
Edmunds and the Oilers' offense stayed hot as he found Micah Riola on a 16-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead to 21-0. In the second quarter, Edmunds connected with Foster again, this time for a 41-yard touchdown, pushing the lead to 28-0. Huntington Beach capped off an explosive first half with a 10-yard rushing touchdown by Edmunds, sending them into the locker room with a commanding 35-0 lead.
In the second half, the Oilers picked up where they left off. Though a 66-yard touchdown run by Kurtz was called back due to a penalty, Riola finished the drive with his second touchdown, increasing the score to 42-0. The Oilers cruised to a 42-3 victory, dominating in their Epsilon League opener.
Huntington Beach will return home next Friday for the first time since September 6th, hosting the La Habra Highlanders for Senior Night at 7 p.m.
